How to do it, step by step

  1. Open the free blur tool and load your screenshot or document photo.
  2. Zoom in and draw a rectangle over each piece of text to hide: names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, or account numbers.
  3. Choose Pixelate with a large block size, or Soft blur at high strength, so no letters can be made out.
  4. Apply the effect and zoom in on the result to confirm nothing is readable.
  5. Download the image and share it safely.

What to hide in screenshots and documents

  • Chats and emails: names, profile pictures, phone numbers, and email addresses of other people.
  • Bank and payment screenshots: account numbers, card digits, balances, and transaction IDs.
  • IDs and documents: passport numbers, dates of birth, signatures, barcodes, and QR codes.
  • Bug reports and tutorials: API keys, tokens, internal URLs, and customer data.
  • Addresses: shipping labels, letters, and delivery apps.

How to redact text securely

Text is easier to recover than faces, because letters come from a small, predictable set. Follow these rules:

Prefer strong pixelation

Use a pixel size larger than the height of the letters so individual characters merge into one block.

Cover the whole field

Blurring only part of a number leaves digits that can narrow down the rest. Select the full value.

Check before sharing

Open the downloaded file and zoom in. If anything is still readable, apply a stronger effect.

Private by design: the screenshot you are redacting contains the very data you want to protect. BlurImage edits it in your browser, so it never reaches a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I blur text in a screenshot?

Open the screenshot in BlurImage, draw a rectangle over the text you want to hide, choose pixelate or blur at a high strength, apply, and download. Nothing is uploaded.

Is blurring text secure enough?

Light blur on large, high-contrast text can sometimes be reversed, and weak pixelation of short numbers can be guessed. Use a strong setting and cover the whole field. For highly sensitive documents, cropping the area out entirely is the safest option.

Can I blur text in a PDF?

BlurImage edits images. Export or screenshot the PDF page as a PNG or JPG, blur the sensitive parts, and share the image instead.

Will the rest of the screenshot stay sharp?

Yes. Only the selected areas are changed, and the image is exported at its original dimensions, so the rest of the text stays crisp.

Can I blur several pieces of text at once?

Yes. Add multiple selections, such as a name, an email address, and an account number, and apply the effect to all of them before downloading.
